sewing
Some plan to learn
sewing, and others may want to do a project from it, they may have a sewing
machine, or they want to buy it, but the machine alone is not sufficient for
sewing, as there are basic sewing tools that cannot be sewing without, such as:
measuring tools, pins, and scissors There are also tools that can be dispensed
with, in addition to tools for specific techniques, and consideration should be
given to purchasing a box that can be closed. To save tools from dust, and to
prevent tampering with them, we will mention some of those tools in this
article for you.
Sewing kit
There are many
tools used in the sewing process in their forms, including the following:
Sewing machine:
The sewing machine helps to provide many types of stitches, as it contains many
important pieces, such as: the foot of the pedal, which serves to stabilize the
cloth when sewing, and the feeding comb, which is a metal tooth that grasps the
fabric and moves with the stitches, As for the thread guide, it defines the
thread path and keeps it in it.
Manual needles:
The needles differ in their types, such as: hand sewing needles, embroidery
needles, and upholstered needles, and these needles are available in many
sizes, so the larger the size number, the smaller the needle, and these needles
are characterized by their suitability for most types of fabrics, as wide
needles are used on heavy fabrics For delicate fabrics, you need fine needles.
Thread: There are
different types of threads, such as: machine sewing thread, hand sewing thread,
in addition to embroidery thread, upholstery thread, and other threads.
Thimble: used to
prevent the needle from penetrating the finger during sewing, and there are
different sizes, and it is available in two types, which are metal and plastic.
Measurement tools
Taking correct
measurements is of great importance in sewing, so that the project comes out in
the appropriate form, and with an appearance indicating the professionalism of
the work, as the cutting process cannot be returned if there is an error in the
measurement and was not accurate, which leads to damage to the whole detail, so
the presence of these tools Important to save money and effort and avoid
mistakes, and therefore it is very necessary to provide some measuring tools,
some of them are essential, and others are concerned with the function of
speeding up the sewing process, including the following:
Measuring tape:
used to accurately measure the body, and to measure circles on fabrics, when
stopped on its edge, and its length reaches approximately 153 cm, and on the
other side of it is the measurement in inches, and despite its flexibility, it
does not expand, so its measurements are accurate, and it is easy to roll When
you are done using it.
Scale: This type
of measuring instrument is used in fabric stores a lot, as it measures large
quantities of fabrics, and can be used as a measuring tool for sewing, when
working on a project such as curtains and bedspreads.
Ruler: It is used
to make marks such as straight, and its length is 30 cm or 45 cm, and there are
transparent rulers through which the marks can be seen, such as: straightening
the edge, parallel lines, buttonholes, breaks, and folds, in addition to its
role in checking the direction of the fabric of the fabric, Which makes the
sewing process easier.
Seam gauge: its
length is about 15 cm, so it is a small ruler, but it has a handle that can
slide, and it is used to make accurate measurement of seams, edges, folds,
buttonholes, in addition to other adjustments.
Transparent
T-Ruler: A T-ruler is used to define the crossed texture, to change the
pattern, and to straighten straight edges.
Slider curve: used
for accurate measurement of the curved areas in the fabric when sewing clothes,
especially dresses.
Ring ruler: used
to measure circles, and can be used in various projects, such as round pillows.
Cutting tools
The tools used in
cutting for sewing are different, and whatever the tool used for cutting it is
very important that it be sharp and of excellent quality. Blunt scissors may
work in the kitchen, but when sewing it may damage the fabrics and the whole
sewing process. As for the cutting tools For professional sewing, they are as
follows:
Punching scissors:
The serrated scissors have serrated blades that cut the fabric so that its edge
looks like the teeth of a saw, and it can be used to clean the edges of the
inner seam in non-fraying fabrics, especially in lightweight fabrics, and also
reduces the appearance of the sharp edge when ironing the seam. It adds the
final shape to the piece, so it's best to consider cleaning and oiling it, and
use it for the fabric only.
Sewing scissors:
This scissors maintains accurate cutting, and relieves hand fatigue, as it is
very sharp scissors, and it can be preserved by cleaning it regularly, oiling
it from time to time, and not using it for purposes other than sewing and
cutting the fabric, and not using it to cut many layers once one.
Seam torn: used to
loosen a seam, so that the thin end picks up a single thread, and the round
edge tears the stitches along the entire length of the seam, without affecting
the fabric.
Tailor's scissors
with curved handles: it can do cutting and fabric on the table, and it has
different sizes and is used for sewing very large projects.
Rotary shears:
similar to a pizza cutter, but its blade can be pulled out, and it is also used
with a special mat (in English: mat) to protect the table and the scissor
blade.
Other sewing tools
There are several
other tools used in sewing, including the following:
Pins and staples
stitching pad, and the sewing pins are with a glass head, or T-pins, which are
sharp and rust-resistant pins, and are used to secure and detail the fabric.
Al-Khayat chalk,
available in many colors, to be used on various colors of fabrics, to make
marks on the fabric and transfer the design on it.
an iron and
ironing board, it is used to show the sewing with a finished look that
indicates professionalism, and a steam iron can be used for the fabric, and
ironing on a special table will make the process more smooth.
Needle thread
feeding tool, used to facilitate the needle thread feeding process.
The rotary scissor
mat, available in different sizes, prevents damage to the rotary scissor blade
when used to cut fabrics on the table top.
Rotary scissor
ruler, used together with rotary scissors, to make the cutting process straight
